Shake Shack is planning its first location in the Grand Rapids area, with a proposed drive-thru restaurant at Woodland Mall in Kentwood.

The new restaurant would be located at 3029 28th St SE, in the outlot parking area between REI Co-op and Rx Optical. Plans approved by the Kentwood Planning Commission include two new drive-thru restaurants at the mall, with Shake Shack identified as one of the incoming tenants.

About Shake Shack

Shake Shack began as a hot dog cart in New York City’s Madison Square Park, originally launched to support a public art project. Over the past 20 years, the brand has expanded nationwide while maintaining its mission to “Stand For Something Good,” which focuses on ingredient quality, community involvement, and responsible sourcing.

The restaurant is best known for its made-to-order burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, and frozen custard desserts.

What’s on the Menu

Shake Shack’s core menu features burgers made with 100% Angus beef, with no added hormones or antibiotics. Popular items include the ShackBurger, SmokeShack, Bacon Cheeseburger, and Avocado Bacon Burger. Vegetarian options such as the Veggie Shack and the ’Shroom Burger are also available, along with gluten-free and lettuce-wrap alternatives.

The chicken menu includes hand-breaded chicken sandwiches and chicken bites made with antibiotic-free white meat. Sides typically include crinkle-cut fries, cheese fries, and onion rings.

For dessert, Shake Shack offers hand-spun frozen custard shakes in flavors like chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, cookies and cream, and seasonal limited-time options. Lemonades, iced teas, and fountain drinks round out the beverage selection.

What’s Next

An official opening date has not yet been announced. Once completed, the Woodland Mall location would be Shake Shack’s first presence in the Grand Rapids market and one of the few drive-thru locations in the region.
