Meet Pages & Peonies

Romance lovers, take note. Grand Rapids now has its very own indie-focused romance bookstore—and it’s exactly what it sounds like. Pages & Peonies opened on Alpine Avenue with one mission: to support indie authors and deliver stories that bring the heat.

Owner Sarah Ellison has been selling Blind Dates with Books for a few years, but she wanted more than just wrapped-up surprises. That’s how the storefront came to life—a curated space focused on romance, spice, and small-press stories. Most titles come from indie or self-published authors, and the selection leans into bold, swoony plots you won’t always find on big-box shelves.

The store’s collection includes signed copies of Sarah’s own book Keep Me Safe, a forbidden-age-gap romance with the kind of tension you expect from a best-friend’s-dad setup.
