What You Need to Know About ArtPrize 2024

ArtPrize 2024 is back in Grand Rapids, marking its 15th year from September 13 to 28. This annual event draws artists and art lovers from around the world to experience a diverse collection of visual and experiential art. Here’s a breakdown of everything you need to know for this year’s event.

A Free and Open Art Experience

ArtPrize is completely free to attend. It welcomes both local and international participants working in various mediums, providing a platform for creativity and expression. Over $400,000 in awards will be given directly to artists, with prizes determined by public voting and a juried panel. In addition, $200,000 in grants will be provided to support participating artists.

Opening Night Celebration – September 13

ArtPrize 2024 kicks off with a grand celebration on Friday, September 13, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Pearl Street Bridge. The event will feature food trucks, live music, and a fireworks show over the Grand River. You can also expect a “surprise” from the organizers that promises to bring something new to the experience this year. Want to feel like a VIP? Head over to Ah-Nab-Awen Park for exclusive access during the opening night celebration.

Before the festivities begin, three community parades will take place starting at 6:30 p.m. from Fish Ladder Park, Monroe Skate Park, and the ArtPrize ClubHouse. The parades will all converge at the Pearl Street Bridge for the main event.

Where to Find the Art

This year’s ArtPrize will feature more than 950 artists showcasing their work at over 170 venues across Grand Rapids. The art can be found in five districts: Center City, Northside, Southside, Eastside, and Westside. This year’s event is the largest since 2017, with a diverse mix of local, national, and international talent. Whether you’re strolling downtown or exploring a specific neighborhood, you’ll encounter incredible artwork throughout the city.

    • The top 100 vote-getters will be announced, with performances from America’s Got Talent finalists and The Pack Drumline.

    • ArtPrize winners will be revealed, followed by food trucks, a cash bar, a light show, and even a circus performance.
