The first trailer for the thriller Holland has been released, offering a first look at the dark mystery set against the tulip fields of West Michigan. While most of the film was shot in Tennessee, select scenes were filmed in Holland, Michigan, in 2023, bringing authenticity to the story’s setting.

Plot and Themes

Directed by Mimi Cave, Holland follows Nancy Vandergroot (played by Nicole Kidman) a teacher and homemaker whose seemingly perfect life unravels as she begins to suspect a disturbing secret about her husband. The film, which carries a Fargo-esque tone, weaves dark humor into its suspenseful plot. The script—originally titled Holland, Michigan—gained attention in 2013 after topping the Black List, an annual ranking of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays.

Filming in Holland

Filming in Holland took place at Windmill Island Gardens, with over 200 cast and crew members on location. Other notable locations featured in the trailer include Holland High School, Windmill Restaurant, and scenes reminiscent of the Tulip Time Festival. However, footage of the famous Tulip Time parades was filmed in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Cast and Production

Kidman not only stars in the film but also serves as a producer, working alongside Per Saari, Kate Churchill, and Peter Dealbert under Amazon Studios and her Blossom Films banner. She is joined by Succession star Matthew Macfadyen and actor-producer Gael García Bernal. The film, written by Manhunt creator Andrew Sodroski.

Release and Premiere

The world premiere of Holland is set for the 2025 South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas, running from March 7-15. With its mix of suspense, dark humor, and a gripping storyline, the film is expected to generate strong buzz upon its release. Holland, Michigan, may have only served as a partial filming location, but its presence in the film will undoubtedly bring a fresh spotlight to the lakeshore city.
