Grand Rapids, your weekend plans are here! The final weekend of August is sending summer out with tacos, major concerts, comedy, community events, R&B parties, and even a silent-film-meets-heavy-metal experience.

From TOTO and Myles Smith on Friday to Grand Rapids Taco Fest all weekend long, there are plenty of reasons to get out of the house. Here's your guide to some of the biggest events happening around Grand Rapids and West Michigan this weekend.

Grand Rapids Taco Fest

Riverside Park | Friday–Sunday

Come hungry. Grand Rapids Taco Fest takes over Riverside Park for three days of tacos, live entertainment, drinks, and family fun.

More than 30 local taquerias are participating, while two stages will feature more than 50 entertainment acts. The festival also includes Lucha Libre wrestling, taco-eating contests, artisan vendors, tequila sampling, and a Kids Zone.

The festival runs Friday from 4–10 p.m., Saturday from noon–10 p.m., and Sunday from noon–9 p.m.

Friday, August 28

TOTO + Christopher Cross + The Romantics

Acrisure Amphitheater

Friday's biggest concert brings three major names together at Acrisure Amphitheater.

TOTO, Christopher Cross, and The Romantics take the stage at 6:45 p.m., giving classic rock and pop fans a chance to hear decades of recognizable hits in one night.

Myles Smith with Michael Marcagi

Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park

Myles Smith heads to the Frederik Meijer Gardens Amphitheater Friday evening with Michael Marcagi.

The concert begins at 7 p.m., adding another major outdoor show to Friday's unusually crowded music calendar.

Ali Siddiq: The Custom Fit Tour

DeVos Performance Hall

Comedian Ali Siddiq brings The Custom Fit Tour to DeVos Performance Hall at 7 p.m.

The acclaimed comedian has built a following around his storytelling-driven stand-up, and Friday's performance offers a strong alternative to the night's packed concert lineup. The show will also be a phone-free experience.

Toni Romiti

The Stache at The Intersection

Toni Romiti takes over The Stache Friday night for an intimate Grand Rapids performance.

The show begins at 8 p.m., giving R&B fans another option for kicking off the weekend.

Don't want to commit to a concert? Friday is also opening night of Grand Rapids Taco Fest.

Grab dinner from one of the participating taquerias, catch some live entertainment, and hang out along the Grand River before the festival closes at 10 p.m.

Saturday, August 29

Grand Rapids Walk for Lupus

The Blue Bridge

Start Saturday downtown while supporting an important cause.

The Michigan Lupus Foundation's Grand Rapids Walk for Lupus brings the community together to raise awareness and funds for patient support services and lupus research.

On-site registration begins at 9 a.m., with the event scheduled from 10 a.m.–noon near the Blue Bridge.

Bayker Blankenship

The Stache at The Intersection

Country artist Bayker Blankenship takes the stage at The Stache Saturday night, bringing another live music option to The Intersection's packed summer calendar.

I Love R&B Party

Elevation at The Intersection

If dancing is more your speed, head upstairs to Elevation for the I Love R&B Party.

Expect a night built around R&B favorites, throwbacks, and plenty of sing-along material as Saturday night keeps rolling.

Taco Fest hits its longest day Saturday, running from noon until 10 p.m.

Between tacos, live music, Lucha Libre wrestling, contests, margaritas, vendors, and family activities, you could easily make an entire afternoon out of this one.

Metropolis with Live Metal Score by The Silent Light

Sunday brings one of the weekend's most unusual events to Wealthy Theatre.

The landmark silent film Metropolis gets a very different soundtrack as The Silent Light performs a live metal score alongside the movie.

For movie fans, metal fans, or anyone looking for something far outside the usual Sunday-night routine, this is an intriguing way to close the weekend.

Sunday is your final chance to visit Grand Rapids Taco Fest.

The festival opens at noon and continues until 9 p.m., giving you one last opportunity to work through your taco wish list before Riverside Park returns to its regularly scheduled, considerably less taco-filled existence.

Summer isn't going quietly in Grand Rapids.
